Plaza Lanes was busy this past weekend in Fort Frances. It was home to a provincial open qualifying tournament. Andrew Stamarski and Jeanie Townson of Fort Frances got first place and will advance. More coverage of the event will be in the Wednesday edition of the Fort Frances Times this week.

A squash tournament, swim meet, and minor hockey tournament took the Memorial Sports Centre by storm in Fort Frances last Saturday, January 10th.

Heading into the Christmas break, the Fort Frances Junior Sabres are in a log jam for second place in the SIJHL. Update: This video was taken before the weekend results. The Sabres are now 2 points behind the Thunder Bay Bearcats for 2nd place and one point ahead of Schrieber Diesels.

Local Sports Guru Mitch Calvert caught up with Mitch Cain of the Fort Frances Junior Sabres between periods of last Saturday's impressive 5-0 win over the Sioux Lookout Flyers. The young forward has been selected to represent the area in the CJHLs Top Prospects game coming up Dec. 17 in Summerside, P.E.I.
